About Us

San Francisco VOAD

VOAD stands for ‘Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster’.

The SF VOAD is a coalition of nonprofit and faith-based organizations working together to build better cooperation in times of disaster. We serve the residents of San Francisco and focus on community recovery efforts in partnership with local government agencies.

We operate under the umbrella of the National VOAD and are guided by the core principles of the 4Cs – cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration – to build strong resilient communities and deliver hope in times of need.

Our Mission

SF VOAD is a coalition of nonprofit agencies working together to build better cooperation in times of disaster.

The VOAD Movement

As a VOAD we are part of a larger movement, staring with the National VOAS which was founded in 1970 and comprises an additional 55 State/territory VOADs which in turn are represented through Local/regional VOADs like ours.

The VOAD Summarized in a 5-minute Video

This video is geared towards helping non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations learn how they connect to their local office of emergency management and to each other.

It was put together by the Regional Catastrophic Planning Team of NY-NJ-CT-PA.
